A quick guide

How Community Map Works

Community Map helps you discover the organisations shaping London. Find charities and community groups near you, see what they need, and vote for organisations working on the causes you care about.

Community Map is not a donation platform. It does not collect money, manage volunteering, or coordinate services directly.

In short

Find organisations near you, see what they need, and vote to raise their visibility.

Step 1

Discover organisations

Use Community Map to find charities, community groups, and local causes across London.

You can search by:

  • Organisation name
  • Cause
  • Borough
  • Organisation type
  • What the organisation needs

You can also explore the interactive map to see where organisations are based or active.

Step 2

Become an advocate

Advocacy on Community Map means adding your voice to an organisation you believe deserves more visibility.

How it works:

  • You advocate for a specific organisation
  • Each advocacy action adds 1 vote to that organisation
  • Causes are used for browsing and grouping organisations, not for voting
  • A cause total is simply the sum of votes for organisations in that cause

Advocacy is free. It is not a donation. Your advocacy helps show which organisations Londoners care about.

Step 3

Advocacy limits

To keep advocacy fair and meaningful:

  • You can advocate for the same organisation once per day
  • You can advocate for as many different organisations as you like in a day
  • No account is needed — you can vote as a guest

This keeps advocacy open while helping prevent spam.

Step 4

What organisations need

Organisation cards may show needs such as:

  • Donations (money)
  • Volunteers (time and skills)
  • Goods & Equipment (physical items)

Needs are grouped into Donations, Volunteers, and Goods & Equipment to keep things simple. These badges help users quickly understand how an organisation may need help. Community Map displays this information to help people discover opportunities, but users should contact organisations directly before donating, volunteering, or offering support.

Step 5

Add to the Map

If an organisation is missing, you can suggest it through Add to the Map. No account is needed.

New organisations do not appear immediately. They are reviewed by the Community Map team before being published. This helps keep the map accurate, useful, and trustworthy.

Step 6

Keeping Community Map trustworthy

Community Map checks new submissions before publication and allows users to request updates if information is wrong or out of date.

Registered Charity badges are only shown where charity registration details have been confirmed. Votes, needs, and organisation information are designed to help people discover and understand London's community sector. They should not be treated as a formal assessment of charity quality or impact.
