What is Community Map?
The Charitable Sector in 2026
The charitable sector is large, fragmented, and under growing pressure. Across the UK, there are hundreds of thousands of charitable organisations, from small local groups to major international charities, all competing for attention, funding, and support.
At the same time, demand is rising while resources are stretched. Costs are increasing, funding is spread more thinly, and charities are being asked to respond to a widening range of social and environmental challenges.
Public participation is also declining. Around 55% of people in the UK donated to charity in the last year, down from 69% a decade ago, while total donations fell to about £14 billion in 2025, down from £15.4 billion in 2024.
The barriers are clear:
49% of non-donors cite affordability
19% cite lack of trust in how funds are used
The result is not a lack of willingness to help, but a growing gap between people, the causes they care about, and the ability to act on that intent.
Our Vision
Community Map is an initiative dedicated to changing how people understand one another and the causes they support. We give individuals and businesses a better way to champion charitable organisations in their communities, while helping them discover new causes.
Our goal is to build a comprehensive database of charitable organisations, covering everything from neighbourhood heroes working locally to global organisations tackling worldwide challenges, and connect it to ‘Notice Boards’ placed in shop fronts, workplaces, and public spaces.
Through these ‘Notice Boards’, businesses can promote the causes they support, while customers and employees can advocate for the organisations closest to their hearts.
We are putting a digital megaphone in the hands of everyday people, giving charities greater visibility and creating a clearer picture of the charitable landscape.
Creating stronger links between people, businesses, and charities. When communities are heard, and organisations are seen, everyone benefits
The Database
The Community Map database brings together all kinds of organisations into one unified place. We are looking to include everything from small local charities and grassroots community groups to large national and international charities.
It will also extend beyond traditional charities to include wider community institutions such as schools, sports clubs, cultural organisations, and local initiatives, reflecting the full ecosystem of causes and organisations people interact with in everyday life.
Rather than existing in separate systems, all of these are brought together in a single, searchable platform.
Importantly, the database is open and continuously evolving. Individuals and businesses can suggest and submit organisations for inclusion, ensuring it remains relevant, representative, and reflective of the communities it serves.
The ‘Notice Board’
The Notice Board is where businesses showcase the causes they care about and invite input from customers and employees. Businesses select a number of charities to feature with a short description of each organisation and what they are doing, and how the business may be planning on supporting them.
Each Notice Board includes a QR code linking to the company’s page, where users can learn more about the featured charities and vote for causes they would like the business to support. Voting options can include the full charity database or a curated list chosen by the business.
This feedback is captured in the platform dashboard, giving businesses clear insight into the causes that matter most to their customers and employees.
Our platform helps businesses support charities in a more visible and informed way, strengthens engagement with their community, and gives charitable organisations greater exposure.
